Carrie Ann Baade
Intemperance

Billy Shire Fine Arts is proud to present new work by Carrie Ann Baade, entitled: "Intemperance." The spirit of this series encompasses behavioral extremes. Plumbing the shallows of polite society and surpassing the boundaries of moderation have been Baade's inspiration. Adultery, betrayal, blood-lust, blasphemy, and suicide are among the subjects that she seeks to provide a theater for public display. These are subjects that one might feel or imagine in private or experience in real life to their soul's detriment; her intention is that these paintings provide catharsis for those who have experienced the unmentionable.

The exhibition will be on display from June 13th through July 4th, 2009. The Gallery is open Thursday - Saturday 12:00pm - 6:00pm. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, June 13th, 2009; 7:00 - 10:00pm.

This will be Carrie Ann Baade's second exhibit at Billy Shire Fine Arts.

Carrie Ann Baade’s surreal oil paintings are rich with allegorical meta-narratives inspired by literature and art history. After traveling around the globe in search of inspiration, her works reflects the aesthetics of one who spent too much time in museums and went a little insane.

Baade was nominated for the prestigious United States Artist Fellowship in 2007. Her work is featured in Metamorphosis, a survey of the top, contemporary Surrealists including Ernst Fuchs, Alex Grey, Laurie Lipton, Chet Zar, Kris Kuksi, and Brom. She will be featured again in the third book in this series on female surrealists, to be released in 2009. In 2005, she received a National Endowment of the Arts Fellowship granted through the Delaware Division of the Arts. Baade received her B.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and her Masters in Painting from the University of Delaware. Her work has been reviewed in the NY ARTS Magazine, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Austin Chronicle, The Independent, and Philadelphia Today. In 2007, her solo exhibitions were at the Delaware Center for Contemporary Art and The Ningbo Art Museum of China. Solo exhibitions are scheduled for Billy Shire Fine Arts in 2009 and Rosenfeld Gallery of Philadelphia in 2010.

Carrie is currently an Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing at Florida State University accompanied by her polydactyl cat.
